Hace mucho, es una expresión para indicar la duración de una acción. Es español podemos utilizarlo en una frase afirmativa, negativa o interrogativa. Más ejemplos:
Hace mucho que conozco a Miguel. I met Miguel a long time ago.
Hace mucho que no viajo. There's a long time since I don't travel.

Un montón de + nombre. Es una expresión coloquial para indicar una gran cantidad. Más ejemplos:

Hablando es un gerundio. Normalmente va con el verbo ESTAR, por ejemplo: Estoy hablando con mi hermana. Pero a veces se puede omitir, porque se sobreentiende. Igual que ocurre en inglés.
